  12. Thank you for purchasing "Monster Media No. 14. We have made every effort
  13. to ensure that this disc contains programs that were either written,
  14. updated or released between January 1 and March 31, 1995. This ensures
  15. that the files you receive are the latest available and also eliminates
  16. any duplicates between Monster Media discs.

  18. To install the Monster Media DOS File Viewer, change to your CD-ROM directory
  19. and type "INST_DOS.BAT". Follow the prompts. You will then be presented with
  20. the text file you are reading now. Please read this to find out how to install
  21. the graphics viewer and other features.

  23. Total installation requires approximately 2.6 Megs of hard drive space.
  24. You may delete the intro Monster Media pic, MONSTER.GIF, if you want a bit
  25. more space.

  27. To view many of the images on the discs, you will need to install a file
  28. viewer. We have included CompuShow v8.76 in the Monster directory. This
  29. program will directly interface with VIEWCD. To install the necessary files,
  30. please run the files CSHOWA.EXE. It is a self extracting file that will
  31. install itself to a directory on your hard drive. To allow VIEWCD to find
  32. CompuShow, it must either be in your path (add it to the end of the PATH
  33. statement in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file) or copy the files into the directory you
  34. installed the Monster Media files to.

  42. COMPUSHOW v8.76 is copyrighted 1994 by Canyon State Systems and Software and
  43. is supplied for evaluation purposes only. If you continue to use CompuShow
  44. v8.76, you are required to register this program with the author. There are
  45. also many other very fine image viewers which may be found in the GRAPHICS
  46. directory.

  48. To view animations, GIF, PCX, TGA, JPG and MPeg files on the disc, just
  49. press the F2 key when the file you wish to view is highlighted.

  51. By default VIEWCD uses AAPlay, MPeg and CompuShow as it's image viewers. These
  52. are not the only viewers you can use. If you'd like to try another image
  53. viewer, please look in the GRAPHICS directory for many other fine programs.
  54. If you experience problems viewing images you may have low conventional memory
  55. or you need a VESA driver.

  57. VIEWCD uses Info-Zip's UnZip to decompress the files on this disc. UnZip is
  58. in the MONSTER directory.

  61. You may use this version of ViewCD on ALL of your Monster Media discs. You
  62. no longer need to keep seperate directories for each disc. You also no longer
  63. need all of the DIR files, as ViewCD now reads the file directories and
  64. descriptions right off of the disc that's in your drive.

  66. To start VIEWCD at any time, type the following at the DOS Prompt:

  70. If you would like to make a database to enable you to search all files for
  71. a keyword, or you would like to make databases for other Monster Media discs,
  72. choose OTHER from the Main Menu and then Choose the option MAKE SEARCH DATA
  73. FILE. Make sure you have the disc in the CD-ROM that you want to make a
  74. database of. Name each database with a unique name (ie. Monster
  75. Media No. 11 could be named media_11). When you want to do a search just
  76. pick the database you'd like to search and find that file FAST! We have
  77. already included the DAT file for this disc, but you may add other Monster
  78. Media discs using this procedure.

  85. If this is your first time using the windows `95 viewer, you MUST install a
  86. few support files BEFORE you can use the CD-ROM viewer. The setup file is in
  87. the \MVIEW\SETUP directory. Use the Windows run command and type:
  88.  
  89.            x:\INST_WIN.BAT
  90.            ^
  91.            |..........................Your CD-ROM Drive Letter

  93. The setup file will install the support files to your Windows System Directory.
  94. Most of these files will probably be there, so they won't actually be copied,
  95. but you probably will need a few of them. It will also create an UNINSTALL
  96. file you can use if you'd like to clear out the Monster Media CD-ROM File
  97. Manager's support files.

  99. If you run the viewer from the Hard Drive, the program will ask you for your
  100. CD-ROM drive. If you run the viewer from the CD-ROM drive, the program will
  101. start automatically. The MView EXE file is in the MMEDIA directory on the
  102. CD-ROM.

  104. You will achieve best results by using this viewer in either 800x600 or
  105. 1024x768 mode and SMALL fonts. However, it will still work fine if using LARGE
  106. fonts or a resolution greater than suggested. We are not supporting 640x480 at
  107. this time because of the amount of information that must be presented on the
  108. screen. 640x480 places severe restrictions on this.

  110. We hope to have a Windows version by Monster Media No. 15. In the meantime,
  111. check our Website (http:\\www.monstermedia.com\~mmedia) for any possible
  112. early release.

  116. For those WINDOWS programs that require a VBRUN300.DLL runtime library, or an
  117. OS/2 program that requires a V?OBJ.DLL library you can find them included
  118. within the folling files:

  127. Copy them to your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory or your C:\OS2 directory and any
  128. program that needs to load one of these files will be able to find them.

  131. IMPORTANT!  To speed up the loading of the various file listings while in
  132. ViewCD, it is suggested that the buffers in MSCDEX be set for 18 or more.
  133. This will greatly decrease loading time.

  136. We have provided database files for several popular CD-ROM BBS Doors: DreamROM,
  137. EZ-ROM, ROMBrain, ROMDoor and SF-ROM. Just plug the correct files into your
  138. door as required for that particular door.

  140. You will also find specific BBS file listings in various locations as required
  141. by that particular BBS. Please read SYSOP.TXT for the listing and locations of
  142. the specific BBS formats.

  144. Included in several of the BBS directories are utilities to directly convert
  145. the FILES.BBS file listings to a specific BBS format. Please check the
  146. directory of the BBS you are interested in.
